Summary (courtesy of Goodreads)
The Princess Bride meets Travis Baldree in Tea You at the Altar, the third cosy fantasy in Rebecca Thorne’s bestselling Tomes & Tea series. Our sapphic adventurers must navigate the ultimate maelstrom – their own wedding!
Kianthe and Reyna are ready to finally walk down the aisle, and in just seven days their wedding of a wifetime will become a reality. There’s still so much to do but, like all best-laid plans, everything seems to be going awry.
Their baby dragons are causing mayhem in the town of Tawney, and Kianthe’s uptight parents have invited themselves to the wedding. Yet, worst of all, Reyna has become embroiled in a secret plot to overthrow Queen Tilaine. The world seems against them – and how are they going to live long enough to say ‘I do’?
My Thoughts:
Please be advised, there will be spoilers.
As soon as I finished A Pirate’s Life for Tea I knew I had to have the next book.
In book one, we meet Reyna and Kianthe- the duty bound queen’s guard and the most powerful mage of their time. We follow them as they escape to make a new life together, open a tea and book shop, and get used to civilian life… only to be ripped away from it when dragons attack.
Book two has our girls on the high seas chasing clues on what might be going on with their home; only to find a much bigger issue that needs dealt with- seriously, what do you do when the pirates are the good guys in a war?
Now? We have baby dragons, espionage, and hidden royals- and that’s the easy part. What do you do when the inlaws come equipped with their choice of spouse for their daughter? What happens if the heir doesn’t want to rule? Can Tawney withstand bored, land-locked pirates arriving (presumably) for a wedding?
I loved this so much! The story was fast paced, action packed, and brimming with the charming, punny humor I have come to expect from this series. I was thrilled that not only were we back in Tawney, allowing me to get back to characters I missed from book one, but characters from book two had a place here as well. The community we see building in these books- character interactions that give us warm fuzzies (one of my favorite things about cozy myteries and romances), are one of the things I most love about this series. Another? We are dealing with large issues- espionage, war, long lost relatives as well as strained relations- with grace and witt. Kienthe was constantly having me in stitches- especially in her interactions with the baby dragons. This was a five star book for me.
As far as adult content, I still consider this a cozy mystery. There is sexual content, but , like the first book, it’s mainly limited to banter and innuendo. More than that, there’s language, drinking, and violence. All are lowkey and tastefully done (well, mostly). While I think it’s geared towards adults, Young Adults and New Adults would probably love it.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this audiobook from Netgalley working with Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own and were not swayed by this. My Thanks!
Happy Reading! See you next time,
